New York—As part of a new collaboration between H. Stern and New York City-based Pratt Institute, students at the renowned art-and-design college have been asked to take inspiration from the Brazilian jeweler's world and create works using a medium of their choice.

From a pool of 75 entries to the "Star Award Competition," 16 finalists were chosen in February of this year, and three winners will be announced on April 25 at an award ceremony and exhibit to be held in New York City.

Students in subjects as varied as architecture and fashion were asked to take one element of H. Stern's design aesthetic, and through three-dimensional models, drawings and written essays, explain and display their vision.

Included among this year's finalists are the architectural model of a building, a dress, fine paintings, light fixtures, a photographic essay, jewelry and sculptures, each of which was chosen by a jury composed of photographer Albert Watson, fashion designer Peter Som, Interview magazine Market Director Joseph Errico, Pratt Provost Peter Barna and H. Stern Creative Director Roberto Stern.

"H. Stern is known to look outside the jewelry industry for style influence and behavioral trends to guide its creative process," Pratt Institute President Thomas F. Schutte said in a statement. "Joining forces with a global brand dedicated to modern design as H. Stern, allowed Pratt to expose its students to the realities and opportunities of the modern design industry."

The top three students in the competition will be awarded with prizes and scholarship funds, and the first-prize winner will also receive a trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Winners and finalists will have their works exhibited at the H. Stern flagship boutique in New York City.
