MJSA announces Vision Award winners

New York—The Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America (MJSA) recognized 18 designers with its 2007 MJSA Vision Awards on March 18 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City.

The winners were:

Professional category: first place, Troels D. Larsen, Jacobus Goldsmiths, Laguna Beach, Calif.; second place, Patricia Madeja, Patricia Madeja Studio Jewelry, West Islip, N.Y.

Student category: first place, Stefanie Kristanto, Raffles Design Institute, Singapore; second place, Ji Eun Lee, Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Ga.

Palladium distinction: first place, Trish Yan, Grandway Development, Ontario, Canada; second place, Nina Basharova, Nina Basharova, New York.

Laser distinction: first place, Thomas Dailing, Thomas Dailing Designs, Stevens Point, Wisc.; second place, Jaime Enriquez, Jewels by Designs, Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Natural Color Diamond distinction: first place, Nina Basharova, Nina Basharova, New York; Liaung Chung Yen, Liaung Chung Yen Designs, Henrietta, N.Y.

CAD/CAM distinction: Olga Baranova, Ol. B Design, Brookline, Mass; second place, Danny and Libby Barnes, The Alternative Jewelry Shop, Nicholasville, Ky.

Crystal distinction: first and second place, Caito Amorose, Moonwater Designs, McKeesport, Pa.

Mokume-gané distinction: first place, Lisa Krikawa, Krikawa Jewelry Designs, Tucson, Ariz.; second place, Wayne Werner, Havre de Grace, Md.

Reactive Metals distinction: first and second place, Kelly Liddicoat, Kelly Liddicoat Designs, Boca Raton, Fla.

In other news, the MJSA has received a $65,000 grant from the JCK Industry Fund to finance the development of a modular seminar program that will expand the depth and reach of innovation throughout the industry.

The seminar program, a part of "Thinking Ahead: The MJSA Innovation Initiative," will take place at trade shows and offer ideas on driving growth, how to price and promote innovative products, and how retailers and manufacturers can create customer experiences that drive sales.
