Russell Simmons to be honored at Hollywood Style Awards

Los Angeles—Russell Simmons and the Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF) will be honored at the 2007 Hollywood Style Awards, scheduled for Oct. 7 at the Pacific Design Center's SilverScreen Theater.

The announcement was made by A Diamond is Forever, which is a sponsor of the event.

Simmons is being recognized with the "Hollywood Soul" award. The mission of the DEF, which he founded earlier this year, is to raise money to support educational and skill-development schools, colleges and other institutions that empower economically disadvantaged people and communities in African countries.

The Simmons Jewelry Co.'s Green Initiative jewelry collection supports the DEF, with more than $20 from the sale of each signature "Green Bracelet" (which retails for $125) raising money toward educational programs in Africa. The bracelet is made from African materials: green malachite beads and a rough diamond. It has become a popular item with celebrities such as Beyoncé Knowles, Chris Tucker, David Beckham, Ludacris, Penelope Cruz, Serena Williams and T.I.

The jewelry collection will be on display at the third annual Young Hollywood Dream Closet, hosted by Hollywood Life magazine.
