Mumbai, India—The Gitanjali Group, through its luxury and retail arm Gitanjali Lifestyle Ltd., has added 14 international jewelry, watch, writing instrument and silverware companies to its showcase of luxury brands for the Indian consumer.

The brands made their debut at an exhibit titled "Opulence," which is being held from Feb. 22-24 at the Taj Hotel in Colaba, Mumbai. Perizaad Zorabian, Bollywood star and brand ambassador of the Gitanjali Group, hosted the gathering.

The brands include fine-jewelry collections from the Mariella Burani Fashion Group (MBFG), such as Calgaro, Facco, Rosato and Valente, and the DIT Group, such as Io Si, La Nouvelle Bague, Roberta Porrati and Stefan Hafner.

Other brands unveiled at the event included Nina Ricci timepieces, Greggio silverware and Campo Marzio writing instruments.

"Luxury is not new to Indians, and the landscape of the Indian economy is also undergoing a vast change offering a profitable opportunity for Indian retailers to move notches higher," Gitanjali Group Chairman Mehul Choksi said in a media release. "For us, it is a coup and double celebration, for today we are not just launching a variety of luxury brands under the banner of Gitanjali Lifestyle, as promised, but also have on one platform the giants of this industry representing their brands in India."

Gitanjali Lifestyle intends to retail these brands through 25 outlets, including exclusive boutiques and shop-in-shops, by the end of 2008. It also intends to build "Opulence" as a property that would be organized and carried to different cities across India, including Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Dehradun, Delhi, Haridwar and Hyderabad.

In addition, the company intends to open 200 lifestyle stores in "Metros" and "Mini-Metros" across industries including beauty, fashion and jewelry. These will come in three formats ranging from 5,000 square feet to 15,000 square feet, and through malls in excess of 80,000 square feet.

Having entered into a fifty-fifty joint venture with Morellato and Sector Group last year, Gitanjali Lifestyle already distributes all of the Italian company's jewelry and watch brands, including John Galliano, Just Cavalli Jewels, Just Cavalli Time, Miss Sixty Jewels, Miss Sixty Time, Molecole, Morellato, Philip Watch, Pirelli Pzero Tempo, Roberto Cavalli Timewear, Sector.

Investment in the luxury segment by the Gitanjali Group ranges from $15 million-$20 million.
