New York—The JA New York Summer Show, held from July 29-Aug. 1 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City, achieved another successful year in terms of attendance, networking and sales, and honored the best new designer of the year.

JA New York Group Show Director Drew Lawsky said he was pleased with the show's outcome.

"The energy at this year's show was remarkable," he said.

The New Designer Gallery, celebrating 30 years of achievement at the show, named Joseph Murray as the Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, Murray spent his early career designing costume jewelry for Trifari, and then launched his own line in 2005 after working with other designers in the '90s. His pieces can be seen at Bergdorf Goodman and Fragments in New York City, Chepita in Aspen, Colo., and Lido Jewelers in Puerto Rico.

As part of the celebration, more than 50 past winners of the Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year award returned to witness Murray's achievement, including David Yurman, Penny Preville, Sandy Baker and George Sawyer.

Another highlight of the celebration was a silent auction, which raised more than $12,000 to benefit the Mort Abelson Scholarship to the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco.

Jeweler's Resource Bureau President Cindy Edelstein said the 30th anniversary event was a fabulous way to celebrate the achievements of so many successful designers.

"I was thrilled on a personal level to see so many industry professionals working together and believe that this event strengthens the community and is a testament to JA New York's devotion to the industry," she said.

Next up for JA New York is the Special Delivery Show, scheduled from Oct. 28-30. The show allows for direct on-site buying.
