Fall Fashion Week shows minimal jewelry

New York—Halfway through Mercedes Benz Fall Fashion Week 2007, a majority of today's top designers showed their collections without jewelry.

Those who did opt to send baubles down the catwalk showed a propensity for bangle bracelets (Abaeté, Matthew Williamson, Tracey Reese), yellow gold (Atil Kotoglu, Gustavo Arango, Oscar de la Renta) and cocktail rings (Diane von Furstenberg, Naeem Khan, Lela Rose)

As for apparel, designers showed universally appealing trends, with a continued focus on muted colors such as blacks, browns and grays, and an increased emphasis on metallic accessories and menswear-inspired clothing such as vests and suits.

While volume remains significant, many designers renewed a focus on tailoring, offering tighter silhouettes than those in recent seasons. Leggings and tights also remain poised for continued popularity, with designers sending short skirts and opaque leg-wear down many a runway.

Fashion Week will continue through Friday, with influential designers such as Michael Kors, Vera Wang and Zac Posen yet to show.
