Celebs design jewelry for world-hunger cause

Los Angeles—Jewelry designer Sonya Ooten has partnered with some of Hollywood's biggest names to design original jewelry pieces to benefit Heifer International, a non-profit organization whose goal it is to held end world hunger and poverty through self-reliance and sustainability education.

Celebrities including Patricia Heaton, Teri Hatcher, Cheryl Hines, Emily Proctor and Ray Romano have each collaborated with Ooten to produce one-of-a-kind collectable necklaces that will be available for auction until Dec. 14 at Charityfolks.com.

As for a sampling of some of the designs, Everybody Loves Raymond actress Patricia Heaton designed a 30-inch 14-karat-gold link necklace adorned with a cognac quartz center drop, brown pearls, green and yellow tourmaline, and chalcedony; Desperate Housewives starlet Teri Hatcher designed an 18-inch 14-karat-gold necklace with a cluster of teardrop-shaped turquoise.

The initiative is being held in commemoration of the first-year anniversary of Sonya Ooten Gem Bar, located in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Larchmont Village.
