AWDC names finalists in diamond jewelry contest

Antwerp, Belgium--A jury has chosen the finalists in the HRD Awards 2009, the biennial diamond jewelry contest organized by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC).
Private persons (no companies) were invited to submit their designs, and selection criteria for the finalists was based upon creativity, aesthetic quality, wearability and craftsmanship.

The next step is that the qualified entrants will create actual jewelry pieces based upon their preliminary designs. Finished jewels must be submitted before March 31, 2009.

A professional jury of experts will then judge the pieces for the final selection, rewarding excellence, innovation, enthusiasm and craftsmanship.

One winner will be awarded 5,000 euros, or about $6,970, but all the laureates will have their finished jewelry pieces exhibited. The collection will be seen in the Diamond Museum Province Antwerp in July and August 2009, and the exhibition will then travel abroad for the year, making stops in China, Japan and Italy, among other countries.
