Royal Asscher launches Stars collection for Africa

October 06, 2009
Royal Asscher has launched a new line of rings to benefit the company's Africa-focused charity, Star of Africa.

New York--Diamond company Royal Asscher has launched a new jewelry line, "Stars of Africa by Royal Asscher," to benefit the company's similarly named charity, Star of Africa.

According to a news release, the Stars of Africa collection consists of 18 rings that feature diamonds encased in a fluid-filled sapphire dome. The dome allows the diamonds to move freely, similar to the flakes in a snow globe, resulting in cascading diamonds that emit fire as they move, like small falling stars.

According to the release, the rings are available in white, yellow and rose gold in two sizes, medium and large.

Prices range from $4,950 to $7,900 retail.

The collection will be available in stores beginning in mid October, and retailers interested in carrying Stars of Africa can contact Royal Asscher directly.

"As a piece of fine jewelry, these cannot fail to be a talking point--they are incredibly stunning in their own right," sixth-generation Royal Asscher diamantaire Lita Asscher said in the release.

In addition, Royal Asscher will donate $150 from each sale to Star of Africa, its philanthropic initiative that aims to improve infrastructure in Africa by creating funding for healthcare, education and self-sufficiency programs.

The project is named for the largest gem-quality rough diamond ever found, the 3,105-carat Star of Africa (Cullinan), which the Asscher family cut in 1908.

"I am proud to say that we are spearheading this project," Asscher said. "It is testimony to our desire to deliver only the most beautiful merchandise, through true innovation, hard work, strict quality standards and social integrity. It is our sincere hope that the phenomenally beautiful Stars of Africa collection has a tangible impact where it is most needed. We are entirely confident that women across the world will fall in love with this entrancing, fabulous and utterly glamorous concept, and that they will wear the rings not only for their beauty but also to support the initiative."
