Alan Revere inducted to Metalsmiths Hall of Fame

October 21, 2009

St. Petersburg, Fla.--The Florida Society of Goldsmiths has announced that master goldsmith Alan Revere has been selected as the 2009 recipient of the National Metalsmiths Hall of Fame Award, recognizing outstanding contributions and consistent support of the metalsmithing arts.

A selection committee consisting of active artists, educators, arts administrators, professionals and prior Hall of Fame recipients chose Revere as an award winner in the artist/arts educator category. Addition categories from which winners have been chosen over the years include the arts patron and business patron designations.

An award-winning designer, educator and author, Revere is widely known and respected as a leader in the industry. He is also the founder and director of the San Francisco-based Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, where he has taught thousands of students.

He joins a list of distinguished Hall of Fame recipients, dating back to the award's inception in 1999. Inductees include: Kurt Matzdorf, Phil London, Ramona Solberg, Mary Ann Scherr, Jack Prip, John Paul Miller, Bob Ebendorf, Helen Drutt English, John Cogswell, Jean Stark and Mary Lee Hu.

As the recipient of the 2009 honor, Revere was presented with an award designed by Phil London, Julia Woodman and Ken Wynsma. London and Woodman designed a silver tessellated piece, and Wynsma, a woodworker and metalsmith, constructed the base.

Visitors to the Hall of Fame, housed at the Morean Arts Center in St. Petersburg, Fla., will find photos of each recipient as well as an example of his or her work.
