Atlanta show attendance dips, but feedback positive
March 14, 2008
Atlanta—Attendance at this year's March Atlanta Jewelry Show dipped slightly from last year's figures, according to the
Southern Jewelry Travelers Association (SJTA), organizers of the show, but the SJTA is also reporting steady order-writing, new business and high-quality booth traffic.
"We're quite pleased with the upbeat feedback we've received from exhibitors and buyers alike, especially in light of the current business climate," SJTA Executive Director Carol Young said in a statement. "The business activity on the show floor, coupled with positive responses we received to current and new show initiatives, reinforce the strength and resilience of our industry, and the show itself, despite challenging economic times."
Among the special programs and features of the March 1-3 show that attendees positively responded to include the enhanced SJTA Rewards program, the touring "Jewels for Charity Hollywood Collection," buyer gala event, a pre-show conference held by the
Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America and the SJTA U educational series.
In addition, retailers were able to take advantage of the "Tanks on Us" program in which pre-registered attendees are awarded pre-paid gas cards, the "High Flying Buyers Lounge," complimentary breakfasts featuring meet-and-greet presentations and a special "Stay For the Last Day" promotion with show specials offered on March 3 only.
In terms of the show's product selection, 34 new first-time vendors were added this year to the growing list of top-name companies that converge upon Atlanta's Cobb Galleria Centre, where the show is held, the SJTA said.
The next edition of the Atlanta Jewelry Show will be held from Aug. 9-11, 2008.
