New York--The Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) is offering a new publication, The Essential Guide to Advertising Law, a comprehensive overview of the regulations pertaining to fine-jewelry advertising.

The guide, underwritten by a gift from GE Money, includes basic rules, Federal Trade Commission guidelines, price advertising, advertising on the Internet, liability and enforcement, "green," Fair Trade and ethical conduct claims, and frequently asked questions.

According to Cecilia L. Gardner, JVC's president, chief executive officer and general counsel, the JVC's new advertising law guide was developed specifically for jewelry retailers, as well as manufacturers, wholesalers, designers and others in the fine-jewelry field, to protect their businesses, reputations and integrity.

"In today's uncertain economy, all jewelers must be particularly vigilant about following the laws pertaining to the manufacture, sale and advertising of fine jewelry. JVC's new publication is easy-to-use and explains the rules and regulations that apply to jewelers' businesses, including important information about advertising on the Internet and 'green,' Fair Trade and ethical conduct claims," Gardner said in a media release.

JVC members can purchase The Essential Guide to Advertising Law for $14.95; non-members can purchase it for $29.95.

To purchase the guide or other JVC legal-compliance products and services, as well as to find out more about joining the JVC in 2009 at 2008 rates, visit the JVC's Web site, JVCLegal.org.
