Art Deco designs such as this one will be on display at Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry and Watches in April.

El Paso, Texas--Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry and Watches will host a special exhibit of early 20th century jewelry designs from the collections of families from El Paso, the Texas town where the jewelry retailer is based.

The exhibit will run April 18-30 and will feature a collection of historic Art Deco (1925-1939) and Art Nouveau (1890-1914) jewelry. Most of the pieces have been loaned for the exhibit and represent precious heirlooms.

Visitors will see that the Art Nouveau period designs are characterized by curvilinear plants and flowers, as well as images of beautiful women realized in jewelry through exotic enamel, high-karat gold and precious gemstones. Out-of-the-ordinary gemstones such as tsavorite garnets and cut coral were popular during the period and were often cut and mixed with plique-a-jour enamel and intricate goldsmith techniques.

In contrast, visitors will find that the Art Deco designs are characterized by geometric shapes, most often straight lines and circles. Resident of El Paso may find that they are already familiar with the period as many of the famous architectural buildings in El Paso were designed during that time.

Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry and Watches was founded in 1980 and is located at 5857 North Mesa, Suite 19. The El Paso jewelry heirlooms exhibit will run in the gallery space, which opened last year and showcases designs and art by both local and nationally known artists.
