Albany, N.Y.--A 24-year-old Cohoes, N.Y., native has won $25,000 in cash from Northeastern Fine Jewelry for scoring a hoop shot in a half-court shooting contest.

The high-profit shot, made by Brendan Bradt on Feb. 22 at a Siena College men's basketball game in Albany, N.Y., was the culmination of the season-long "Northeastern Fine Jewelry $25,000 Shooting Stars" contest.

During each of the Siena Saints' previous 13 home games, one fan was chosen at random to shoot for 45 seconds from various locations on the court. The fan that scored the most points during the season was invited back for a shot at the grand prize.

Bradt collected 370 points at a Jan. 1 Saints game, where he was randomly picked as a contestant. His point total at that one game held up as the season high.

In addition to earning $25,000 in cash from Northeastern Fine Jewelry, Bradt won a $1,000 gift card for qualifying for the final round of the competition. He also took home an additional $370 in gift card money for the number of points he scored earlier in the season, making for a grand total of $26,370 in cash and gift cards from the Albany-based retailer.

Brandt works at a juvenile detention center in Boston and says he will use the $25,000 to pay off student loans. He plans to pursue a master's degree in counseling, with the goal of becoming a high school guidance counselor.

"This couldn't have happened to a nicer young man," Northeastern Fine Jewelry President Ray Bleser said in a media release. "The minute the ball left his hands, my son-in-law Gregg turned to me and said, 'It's going in.' You dream of being able to sign the check for this type of contest, but honestly you're never really sure that moment will ever come."

The $25,000 shot has since become a hit on video-sharing Web site You Tube. By Wednesday morning, just four days after the game, more than 6,000 people had tuned in. The check out the shot, click here.
