Schwarzschild Jewelers to open new store

Richmond, Va.--Schwarzschild Jewelers, one of the oldest retail businesses in the Richmond region, will open a new, more spacious store in the Cary Court Shopping Center at 3144 West Cary St. on Friday, Dec. 12.

The company originally opened in the Cary Court Shopping Center on Nov. 5, 1954; however, its new store, which is at the center of Cary Court Shopping Center, will give Schwarzschild a more prominent presence on Cary Street.

The 4,000-square-foot location has 180 linear feet of jewelry cases and gift boutiques, about double the size of the original shop. According to designer Stephanie Maxey, the store's design incorporates "a salute to the Deco styling on the exterior of Cary Court Shopping Center."

Maxey pulled horizontal lines into the interior as a design element along with sleek polished chrome accents. In addition, she employed a color palette inspired by the soft silver metallic of the original tin ceiling tiles, uncovered during the renovation, pairing it with rich espresso-colored woodwork to create a sleek, modern interior with the warmth of a traditional setting.

The open layout includes amenities such as a beverage center and private diamond-viewing rooms.

Key vendors include Baume and Mercier, Charles Krypell, Color Story, Grainger McKoy, Hamilton, Hearts On Fire, John Hardy, Konstantino, Marco Bicego, Mikimoto, Raymond Weil, Slane and Slane, Suna Brothers and Swiss Army.

The giftware area will feature 925 Sterling, Faberge, Halcyon Days, Herend, L'Object, Reed and Barton, Swarovski and Waterford.

"This is a very exciting time for us at Schwarzschild Jewelers," Schwarzschild President Ed Croft said in a media release. "Our Cary Court location has consistently performed ahead of our expectations, and we feel that there is great potential for the location. Interestingly the Schwarzschilds opened the original Cary Court store to provide service for their customers in the West End. Today, it's our goal to restore the levels of service and convenience that city residents lost as the population centers shifted to the counties."

Schwarzschild Jewelers was founded in 1897, when W.H. Schwarzschild was commissioned to represent one of the finest watchmakers of the day. A family-run, independent jeweler, Schwarzschild stores are located at Alverser Plaza, Short Pump Town Center and Cary Court Shopping Center in Virginia.
