New York State Jewelers Association turns 100

New York--The New York State Jewelers Association (NYSJA) will host its Centennial Anniversary celebration with a gala dinner on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City's Columbus Circle.

The event, which will include a cocktail hour, live and silent auctions, a seated dinner and dancing, will bring together members, partners and friends to salute the accomplishments of the NYSJA as well as the continued success of both the watch and jewelry industries.

"We are extremely proud of the accomplishments that the NYSJA has made over the past century. Our perseverance, continued success and legacy are testaments to our members and partners who have been incredibly supportive of our mission and of our charitable efforts over the years. So that's who this night is really all about, and we share the celebration with each and every one of them", NYSJA President Joel Kopel said in a media release. "We look forward to many more years of outstanding growth and the future prosperity of our industry as a whole."

In honor of the occasion, the NYSJA will partner with the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars in overcoming their injuries and helping them to return to civilian life. Proceeds generated during the evening's silent and live auctions, which will feature highly desirable items and unique experiences, will be donated to the WWP by the NYSJA.

The NYSJA will also have as its special guest New York Yankees outfielder Johnny Damon, who is also the national spokesman for the WWP, a favored charity of the Yankees. Local New York members of the United States Armed Forces who have been severely injured during their military service will join Damon at the gala.

During the evening's program, the NYSJA will acknowledge its members who are also celebrating 100-year anniversaries in 2009, as well as those who have already marked this milestone in their respective histories. These members include brands such as Cartier, Crosman and Son Inc., H.L. Gross and Bros., Tiffany, Tourneau, Wempe and William Barthman.

Since its founding in 1909, the NYSJA has been responsible for changing and enacting new legislation to protect jewelers, provided medical insurance to those in the industry that could not acquire coverage, and has established a significant scholarship fund committed to furthering the careers of aspiring jewelry students. Today, the NYSJA has more than 600 members representing top retailers, designers, suppliers and manufacturers throughout the Empire State.
