Mumbai, India--Leading Jewelers of the World (LJW), an industry organization modeled after The Leading Hotels of the World concept, has entered the Indian market with the launch of Leading Jewellers of the World, according to a press release.

LJW is a marketing initiative for upscale jewelry retailers that provides members with training, monitoring and auditing of best practices in the jewelry trade and retailing.

Encompassing retailers in the United States and Caribbean, the organization is open to a maximum of 100 members who are held to a very high standard.

According to the press release, in India, members will be chosen carefully based on the environment of the store, product quality, business integrity and credibility.

Members of the advisory board of LJW in India include Tehmasp Printer of the International Gemological Institute and Sanjeev Agarwal, former managing director of the World Gold Council in India.

Paresh Das will serve as the vice president of sales and marketing for LJW in India, according to the release.

"Leading Jewellers of the World is, as the name suggests, an exclusive association that's positioning itself as a brand for jewelers that define themselves as the best in their markets," Das said in the release. "We in India have needed this platform [for a long time.] The mission of the association is to draw on the Indian heritage, the diverse entrepreneurial and business strength and experience of its members in order to increase communication and cooperation between jewelers."

LJW in India will give members, who will pay an annual fee to belong, advertising support, lessons in visual merchandising, store events involving celebrity appearances, public relations support and training on product knowledge, selling skills and relationship management.
