Verona, Wisc.--The Midwest Jewelers Trade Show will make its debut this March, providing a boutique-style feel with 160 wholesaler booths and a forum where wholesalers from around the world can meet with retail jewelers from the Midwest.

The show will take place at the Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison, Wisc., from March 13-15, with a reception party and cocktail hour to kick off the show on the 13th.

Keynote sessions will be helmed by faculty from the University of Wisconsin, including Jim Johannes and Dan Olszewski, who will discuss innovation, the overall economy and conditions that are specific to small entrepreneurs in the Midwest.

A third University of Wisconsin professor, Bassam Shakhashiri, will host a seminar titled "Science is Fun: Metals and Color," featuring science experiments and demonstrations displaying colorful changes and fascinating properties of various material, including metals and jewelry. The Encyclopedia Britannica cited Shakhashiri, a chemistry professor, as the "dean of lecture demonstrators in America." He is well known internationally for his effective leadership in promoting excellence in science education at all levels.

In addition to the keynote sessions, a variety of seminars will take place during the duration of the show, with topics to include the refining of gold and the manufacturing of alloys, solders, wire and sheet; the retail management system "The Edge"; CAD/CAM technology; generating business through appraising; and banking issues, gold and commodity pricing, among much more. Experts throughout the industry will lead the seminars, including representatives from such companies as United Precious Metal Refining and Gemworld International.

Both potential attendees and exhibitors can go online to pre-register and sign up for badges on the show's Web site, MidwestJewelersTradeShow.com. The online functionality allows attendees and exhibitors to enter information on who will be attending from their business and to see who from their business is already pre-registered. An "exhibitor information" link on the site also lists attendees and exhibitors who have signed up for the show. Visitors to the site can also check out the "seminars and events" page and sign up for sessions of their choosing.
