Columbus Jewelry Show gets new name

November 06, 2009
In addition to its new name, the Mid America Jewelry Show will have a new venue for 2010, the newly renovated Battelle Hall at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

Columbus, Ohio--The board of directors of the Ohio Jewelers Association has announced that the Columbus Jewelry Show will return in 2010 as the "Mid America Jewelry Show" (MAJS), and the association itself will be renamed as well.

"The Ohio Jewelers Association will now become the 'Mid America Jewelers Association' and reach out to the retail jewelers in the states that have supported the Columbus Jewelry Show and that can now become members of an organization without borders that can provide more personalized services and support," the board of directors announced in a media release.

The board of directors voted unanimously to pursue the name changes for 2010 and is polling the association membership for concurrence. Ballots were mailed to member stores in September, and pending member approval, the name changes will be effective Jan. 1, 2010.

In addition to its reincarnation as the Mid America Jewelry Show, the event will also have a change of venue in 2010. The show will move from Hall D of the Greater Columbus Convention Center to the newly renovated Battelle Hall, a few steps closer to the Hyatt Regency.

Battelle Hall underwent a $40 million renovation that the board of directors said will offer an exciting and dramatic new atmosphere that will be appealing to buyers and exhibitors alike.

The new MAJS will offer attending buyers a full day of educational opportunities on Friday, Aug. 20, with sessions focusing on practical business advice and successful strategies. Prominent keynote speakers will take to the podium on Saturday, Aug. 21, and Sunday, Aug. 22, and interactive roundtable discussions as well as peer-to-peer networking sessions will be offered each day of the show.

In additional to educational opportunities, MAJS offers membership services, wheelchair and handicap services, a concierge desk and postal services. The show will also offer a jewelers cocktail reception to be held on the show floor, along with special promotions, such as the "Wise to Advertise" program enabling MAJS exhibitors to offer complimentary hotel rooms for selected buyers. Another promotion offers all retail jewelry stores attending MAJS a $25 complimentary gas card.
