Jewelers Mutual offers holiday shipping tips

November 04, 2009

Neenah, Wis.--With the holiday season quickly approaching, Jewelers Mutual Insurance Co. is reminding jewelers that U.S. Postal Service (USPS) Registered Mail continues to be the safest way to ship jewelry, followed by USPS Express Mail.

In addition, here are six helpful shipping tips from a postal carrier:
  1. Double box the jewelry item and apply enough mailing tape to keep the package secure as it's thrown, bumped and tossed from one post office to the next.
  2. Don't tempt the postal staff by using jewelry terms on the label.
  3. Write legibly or, better yet, create the label online at USPS.com, so the address can be read. The USPS offers a nice discount when you create the label and pay postage online. You can even save the address for future use.
  4. Double-check the address and don't forget to include North, South, East or West and the suite number.
  5. For Express Mail, the USPS will pick up your postage-paid, addressed packages. Just let them know you need a FREE carrier pickup via USPS.com by 2:00 a.m. the day of pickup. You can even schedule regular, on-going pickups.
  6. When the USPS delivers packages, take a few minutes to make sure that a) all packages are addressed to you b) they've delivered the right number of packages and 3) the packages aren't damaged. If the package appears damaged or tampered with, let them know before they leave so they can report it immediately.
Jewelers Mutual believes so strongly in the security of the USPS, that its Jewelers Block and Jewelers Standard policies automatically include $100,000 of insurance for Registered Mail shipments and $25,000 for Express Mail.
