JA New York 'Top Gun' event to award $1,000
June 25, 2009
New York--JA New York is offering numerous complimentary special events and new features at the upcoming JA New York Summer Show, one of which will include a $1,000 grand prize.
The annual show will return to Manhattan's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from July 26-29, and among the latest features are a new role-playing module that will test retailers' sales skills, a speed-networking session and expanded Jewelers of America (JA) educational seminars and sessions.
"The JA New York Summer Show is dedicated to providing new opportunities to promote more business," JA New York Show Group Director Drew Lawsky said in a media release. "We're excited to present new and exciting ways for attendees and exhibitors alike to meet and interact with top industry professionals and experts. Attendees who take advantage of the Summer Show's features will truly benefit this year, from previewing the best jewelry pieces the world has to offer to learning new ideas on how to help increase sales."
Among the most anticipated features is the "Top Gun" challenge, a live role-playing competition that will position top salespeople against each other in a test of sales skills. Participants and audience members can look forward to a fun, interactive demonstration of emerging best practices, with scenarios including "The Nervous Fiance," "The Holiday Gift-Buyer" and "The Self-Purchasing 'I'm Worth It' Buyer," among others.
The winning salesperson in each scenario will receive a $200 prize, and one grand-prize winner will take home $1,000.
Another exciting addition to this year's Summer Show is JA New York's "Speed Networking for Jewelers" session. Presented in a "speed-dating" format, the session will enable retailers to share their knowledge on how to executive successful in-store events, from a single-vendor trunk show to cross-promotional galas. Participants will have to think quickly on a wide range of topics such as "Your craziest idea--past or new" and "Great events for male customers."
Further networking opportunities will be available through the America's Best Jewelers (ABJ) program, with topics including "Speeding Inventory Turn" and "Managing Your Web Presence."
Finally, educational seminars will be held from Sunday through Tuesday, covering topics including sales tips and training, branding, public relations, customer retention, memo and new technologies.
Additional special events taking place at the Summer Show include the ABJ Awards, recognizing retailers whose business practices exceed current industry standards, the 32nd annual Mort Abelson Designer of the Year Award ceremony, spa retreats, daily networking lounges and the Concours d'Elegance Watch Pavilion.
