Jeweler to auction $10K shopping spree

November 04, 2009

Albany, N.Y.--After this year's "Dreams Do Come True" Celestial Ball, a benefit for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, one lucky guest will be returning home having nabbed a $10,000 jewelry shopping spree.

Northeastern Fine Jewelry, with stores in Manchester Center, Vt., and Albany and Schenectady, N.Y., is donating the $10,000 shopping extravaganza as part of an auction to help raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, whose mission it is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of medical research.

The shopping spree is slated as the signature item in the Celestial Ball auction, with additional items to include "coffee for a year" from Dunkin' Donuts, a two-year lease on a 2010 Nissan Sentra and a box for five at the Saratoga Race Course, among others.

Northeastern Fine Jewelry will open its doors to the shopping spree winner, who will get to spend the money on any of the fine-jewelry items at one of Northeastern's three stores. There's just one catch: the entire $10,000 must be used in one day.

"I hope that this donation adds the same sparkle to the lives of children living with juvenile diabetes that the jewels will impart upon the winner," Ray Bleser, owner and founder of Northeastern Fine Jewelry, said in a media release. "I look forward to seeing the strategy implemented by the winner. The decision to spread out the $10,000 on several items or cash it all in on one signature piece will be in his or her hands. Considering the unparalleled selection offered at Northeastern Fine Jewelry, it should make for a thrilling experience and an exciting day at our store."

The 13th Annual Celestial Ball will be held at the Albany Marriott on Nov. 14. Guests will enjoy an evening of dinner and dancing followed by both a live and silent auction. For more information, or to purchase tickets, contact Theresa Setzer at (518) 477-2873 or tsetzer@jdrf.org.
