Traditional Jewelers founders' son named president

Newport Beach, Calif.--Southern California's Traditional Jewelers turned 30 with a big bash that included a marching band, a party with hundreds of guests and a surprise announcement.

The Newport Beach, Calif., jeweler co-hosted the Sept. 24 "White Party Gala" bash with Riviera magazine, and more than 300 customers, local dignitaries and well-wishers descended on the store in the Fashion Island luxury shopping center to celebrate. A DJ spun vinyl albums while guests drank champagne and cocktails and nibbled on delicious appetizers.

The University of Southern California Trojan Marching Band was also on hand, marching into the store to announce the anniversary and the birthday of Erik Halfacre, a former Trojan.

Lula Halfacre made an emotional tribute to the jeweler's co-founder and her husband, Marion Halfacre, who passed away two years ago. Noting the family's accomplishments, she then made the surprise announcement of the evening: Her son Erik Halfacre, who just turned 30, was being promoted immediately to president of the firm. Lula also explained that she would continue as the chief executive officer and chief financial officer of the firm, which also has a one-year-old store in Malibu, Calif.

As part of the festivities, a Breitling watch valued at more than $5,800 was awarded to a lucky winner of an in-store "watch hunt" game, and two all-inclusive, four-day, first-class trips to resorts in Cabo San Lucas were also handed out to the biggest spenders of the evening.

In keeping with Traditional Jewelers' commitment to charity, a percentage of the evening's proceeds were donated to Children's Bureau, an organization founded by Orange County activist and philanthropist, Donna Crean. The county chapter of Children's Bureau is dedicated to providing counseling and protection of abused and neglected children.
