Yurman bows to bridal with new collection

David Yurman's new bridal collection includes the "Pave Cross Over Cable Engagement Ring" in platinum with the brand's new, trademarked cushion-cut stone, and "Cable Eternity Bands" with yellow sapphires, pink sapphires and diamonds.

New York--As bridal increasingly appears to be the go-to category for U.S. jewelers looking for the recession-proof sale, David Yurman is among those wooing the soon-to-be-wed set with fresh offerings.

The centerpiece of David Yurman's new bridal collection, showcased at a press preview on Wednesday at the company's retail boutique on Madison Avenue in New York City, is the brand's new trademarked diamond, "The David Yurman Signature Cut Diamond."

A modified cushion cut that the company's master cutters have been working on for several years, the fancy shape pairs the traditional look of the old-fashioned cut--which is seeing a bit of a renaissance lately--with the type of precision cutting technique that the newest technology provides.

The collection's various engagement ring styles feature the designer's signature cable look, rendered in platinum and 18-karat gold in styles that include single or double cables, crossover cables with the diamond at the center, split-shank cables and contoured cables, with or without pave diamonds.

The collection's "Cable Eternity Bands" in platinum or 18-karat gold are available with diamonds, yellow sapphires or pink sapphires. And while some buyers wear them as traditional bands, others opt to stack them in lieu of an engagement ring.

The collection also includes single-baguette eternity bands with a diamond baguette or a blue or pink sapphire baguette serving as the center stone.

For men, the new collection includes cable or smooth wedding bands in platinum or 18-karat gold. For the edgier groom-to-be, there are black titanium bands with cognac diamonds.

Engagement rings, including center stones, start at about $10,000 retail and range upwards to as much as $150,000. Wedding band prices for ladies begin at about $500 retail.
