Stuller's Diamond Try-On app for iPhone goes live

August 19, 2009
Stuller launched its Live Diamond Try-On application for iPhone users on Aug. 18.

Lafayette, La.--Let the virtual diamond-ring try-ons begin: Live Diamond Try-On, Stuller's new iPhone application, is now available for download from Apple's App Store.

Stuller executives said partner retailers have been eagerly awaiting the launch of the application, which allows users of Apple's iPhone to pick out a diamond ring and then virtually try it on after using the phone's camera to take a picture of their hand.

"We've received such amazing support from our retailers when demonstrating earlier versions of the app at JCK [Las Vegas]," Stuller president, founder and CEO Matt Stuller said in a media release. "We want to make sure all retailers take advantage of another option that will help drive traffic to their stores."

Stuller's iPhone application is designed to generate excitement with engagement ring shoppers and ultimately lead them to local retail jewelers to buy a diamond, the company says. To participate, though, jewelers have to be part of the Red Box Diamond retailer program offered by Stuller, which is a Diamond Trading Co. sightholder.

Stuller partnered with Gemvision Corp. to create the iPhone application, which takes users through a series of steps. First, the user selects a diamond engagement ring, choosing carat weight, diamond shape, precious metal and mounting. Next, the user takes a picture of her hand using the iPhone's built-in camera, and then uses the iPhone's touch screen to position the ring onto the image, adjusting for perfect fit.

After selecting the ring, the image of the person's hand, with the chosen ring, can be e-mailed to friends and family, and posted on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

The iPhone user can also track down where to find the ring through the "find a jeweler" function of the Live Diamond Try-On application, which uses the iPhone's GPS function to pull up Google maps and place virtual pins on the nearest Red Box Diamond Jewelers, ranking each one based on proximity, Hand says.
