Mumbai, India-- Despite the worldwide economic slowdown, the Gem and Jewellery Export and Promotion Council (GJEPC) is moving forward with its 2009 schedule, starting with the second IIJS Signature show in Goa in February.

IIJS Signature is scheduled for Feb. 20-23, 2009, at Kala Academy in Panaji, Goa, a seaside resort destination, according to a release from the GJEPC.

The show features the products and designs of Indian jewelry manufacturers. It emphasizes design and innovation in product ranging from bread-and-butter jewelry pieces to couture designs in a wide range of price points.

The invitation-only show is a "premium niche event...high on experimental quotient" that maximizes buyer-seller interface and online pre-scheduled appointments, according to the GJEPC.

GJEPC Chairman Vasant Mehta said the show will focus on markets that have been somewhat shielded from the global recession.

"IIJS Signature promises to highlight India's capabilities to manufacture jewelry in terms of design, craftsmanship and quality at par with international centers in the world," he said. "The event is by invitation only and will showcase products from the country's top manufacturers. The show will focus on select markets such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Gulf, Russia, CIS (an organization of former Soviet republics), etc., where the recession's effects are not felt at such a great extent."

He said the Signature show is an ideal platform for improving business relationships, clearing the way for a new era of trade cooperation and investment.

Outside of the show, the GJEPC has scheduled "exclusive" evenings that will enable buyers and exhibitors to unwind and network.
