Indian diamond companies lauded

Mumbai, India--Two Indian diamond companies recently were recognized for excellence in the areas of exporting and human resources, according to news releases from each company.

India's Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) awarded Sanghavi Diamonds the award for highest importer of cut and polished diamonds into the United States for the fiscal year 2008-2009.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and the government of India, this award is presented to companies that have made recognizable contributions to their industry.

According to the release, this is the fourth year in a row Sanghavi has been honored with this distinction.

The award will be presented to Nitin Jobanputra, president of Sanghavi Diamonds Inc. in New York, at the GJEPC's awards ceremony scheduled to take place in October in Jaipur, India.

"In this unprecedented year of events and challenges, I would like to say 'thanks' to those who have supported us," Jobaputra said in the release. "We at Sanghavi Diamonds have been persistent at providing the highest level of customer satisfaction through the hard work and dedication of our team. The loyalty and reliability of our customers has brought us to levels we have not seen before. Their strength and steadiness has kept us strong and able through these difficult times."

In addition, diamond manufacturer Shree Ramkrishna Export (SRE) was ranked 14th on the list of the top 25 companies with the best human resources practices in India.

The award is presented by Indian steel manufacturer SAIL and, this year, was done in conjunction with business school the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A).

"SRE's human capital is its principal asset and we are delighted to be recognized and win this award," SRE Chairman Govind Dholakia said in the release. "The organization's innovative HR practices in today's dynamic environment help it attract and retain the best available talent. We are committed to creating a culture of performance and growth among its employees."

According to the release, SRE is the only diamond and jewelry company to make SAIL's list and will be included in the book, HR Best Practices--Manufacturing Sector in India.

More than 300 companies were vying to be included on the 25-company list.
