Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam--Organizers of the 2009 International Jewelry Vietnam (IJV) show say that business is booming in the Southeastern Asian nation and that Vietnam is emerging as the world's second-fastest growing economy and third most attractive marketplace for consumer goods.

The IJV show made its debut in May 2008 with a three-day event organized by the World Trade Fair Limited in association with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry. More than 7,000 visitors crowded the show floor, and organizers said in a media release that they expect IJV 2009 to be one of the year's best-selling events in Asia.

The spring 2009 edition will take place from May 7-10 at the Ho Chi Minh City International Exhibition and Convention Center (HIECC), where exhibitors will find finished jewelry, diamonds, pearls, gems, tools and equipment, as well as educational and networking opportunities.

For the May 2008 edition, visitors hailed from more than 30 countries and regions. The vast majority of visitors (86.9 percent) were Vietnam-based, with the next-highest percentage (11.3 percent) from other areas of the Asia-Pacific region. One percent, or 74 attendees, came from North America, and 0.5 percent, or 37 attendees, came from Europe.

Organizers said in the release that Vietnam has a vast and untapped potential for luxury goods and is working toward the elimination of import duties on all products.

In 2006, gold, gems and precious-jewelry sales volume in Vietnam reached $6.3 billion, and organizers said demand was expected to rise to $8.19 billion in 2008.
