Sielaff talks jewelry in Fox Business segment

New York--With Tiffany and Co. just reporting its latest financials, and Zale Corp. poised to do so on Wednesday, a Fox Business news segment this morning focused on the two as "business rivals" for consumer dollars in what has unquestionably been a tough year for jewelry.

National Jeweler Editorial Director Whitney Sielaff along with Burt Flickinger, president of Strategic Resource Group, spoke with Fox Business Reporter Shibani Joshi, who pointed out that Tiffany's second-quarter net income and profits fell in the second quarter, and that all eyes are now on Zale Corp., which is slated to report its fourth-quarter earnings this Wednesday.

Sielaff discussed how the diminished role of De Beers as industry steward over the past decade has impacted diamond profitability, as well as how jewelry's status as a discretionary spend has taken its toll on sales more recently.
