J.C. Penney launches Weekly Deals iPhone app

September 03, 2009

Plano, Texas--Advancing its "Know Before You Go" initiative, J.C. Penney Co. Inc. has launched "JCPenney Weekly Deals," an iPhone application that brings the retailer's style and prices directly to consumers' fingertips, whenever and wherever they need it.

The application, available as a free download from iTunes or at JCP.com/iPhone, allows consumers to browse a select group of advertised sale items that are featured in the retailer's weekend sales circular; create a portable shopping list by saving items as "favorites"; check for the latest special offers; and find the nearest J.C. Penney location to either their current location or to a zip code/city name.

"With shoppers increasingly doing research before they step into a store, our new iPhone app is the latest way we are providing our customers an easier, more engaging and integrated shopping experience," J.C. Penney Chief Marketing Officer Mike Boylson said in a media release. "Furthermore, with more than 13 million iPhone users in the United States--along with 12 million iPod Touch users who can also download apps--the launch of an iPhone app allows us to share our style, quality and affordable prices each week with a rapidly growing base of consumers."

The launch of the JCPenney Weekly Deals iPhone application builds on the retailer's "Know Before You Go" initiative, developed based on extensive customer research that found that a large number of those visiting JCP.com were online for a purpose other than shopping, including viewing merchandise, comparing prices, browsing sales and promotions, finding store directions, exploring ideas for fashion and home, and more.

In response to these findings, the company says that innovative features were added to JCP.com, such as enhanced search capabilities and product information, merchandise availability at local stores and the ability to view weekly sales circulars online--making shopping at J.C. Penney easier and more efficient than ever before.

According to the company, the J.C. Penney iPhone application will evolve as new functionality becomes available. Weekly content updates to the application will be automatic and require no action by customers.
