Survey: Luxury consumers prefer Harry Winston

New York—Venerable New York jeweler Harry Winston has been ranked first among jewelry brands in the 2006 Luxury Brand Holiday Gift Guide.

The guide, compiled by research firm the Luxury Institute, reflects wealthy consumers' ratings of luxury goods companies.

Harry Winston ranks first in all four areas of luxury-brand prestige: consistently superior quality, uniqueness and exclusivity, social status and the ability of the brand to make customers feel special throughout the entire shopping experience.

Tiffany and Co. and Cartier are tied for second place on the list, while pearl specialist Mikimoto ranks third.

In the watch category, luxury consumers gave the highest ranking to Franck Muller and Patek Philippe. Other highly ranked brands include Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet and Breguet.

The Luxury Institute reports that stock market gains have insulated many luxury consumers from the slowdown in real estate, allowing such consumers to continue to spend significantly on gifts this holiday season.
