Chicago—The Women's Jewelry Association (WJA) and Macy's on State in Chicago will present the first "Women in the Know—Midwest" business conference on Oct. 19.

The conference will be held at the Macy's on State store in Chicago from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the theme "Inspire, Educate, Connect."

"We are delighted to work with such a distinguished and legendary organization as Macy's," WJA-Midwest Chapter president and conference chair Myriam Tashey said in a statement. "This partnership will greatly help raise awareness of WJA and the conference in our region. We are very thankful for their support."

The city of Chicago will also promote the conference with banners along Michigan Avenue and State Street announcing the event.

The day will feature speakers, educational and motivational presentations, and networking opportunities. Keynote speakers include Martin Rapaport, distinguished professor of economics and editor in chief of the Rapaport Report, a diamond-pricing guide used universally by the industry, and Susan Jacques, president and chief executive officer of Borsheim's Fine Jewelry and Gifts in Omaha, Neb.

The conference will also feature sessions on branding, life management, leadership and technology chaired by industry professionals and experts, including Cindy Edelstein of the Jeweler's Resource Bureau, Peter Shemonsky of Circa Jewel and Linda Zimmer of The Jewelry Industry Coach.

The day will conclude with a fashion show, presenting jewelry by Midwest designers including Ellie Thompson, Eve Alfillé, Julia Failey, Liz Bucheit, Mary Hartman, Sara Commers and Sarah Smith, and fashions from designers including Armani, Dior, Dolce Gabbana, Missoni and Miyake.

Registration is $150 for WJA members, $180 for non-members and $75 for students. Each attendee will receive a CD of the event.
