Carlsbad, Calif.—The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will offer a bachelor of business administration program focusing on the business of fine jewelry, with classes beginning Oct. 9 at the institute's Carlsbad campus.

To enroll in the program, students must hold an associate's degree or its equivalent from an accredited school. The program requires that students take 20 upper-level classes in subjects such as marketing, retail management, accounting and finance, entrepreneurship and international business. Coursework emphasizes case-study analysis, team projects and interactive exercises.

Beginning with the fall quarter (Oct. 9-Dec. 15), the school will offer the following classes: Principles of Management, Accounting Basics, Fundamentals of Marketing, Ethics and Law, Leadership, Retail Management, Visual Merchandising, and International Law and Trade.

The program received accreditation Sept. 1 from the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology, which accredits more than 800 post-secondary schools. GIA's online bachelor of business administration program received accreditation earlier this year from the Distance Education Training Council.
