Steady traffic, solid sales at Atlanta Show

Atlanta—Exhibitors reported solid order-writing and new business at the Atlanta Jewelry Show, held Feb. 24-26 at the Cobb Galleria Center, and attendance was at an even keel with last year's record-breaking edition, according to the Southern Jewelry Travelers Association (SJTA), which produces and sponsors the semiannual show.

Draws for retailers this year included the new and improved buyer-loyalty program, SJTA Rewards. While last year's program allowed retailers to gain reward points toward airline travel, this new program allows retailers to earn points that can be redeemed for travel as well as for brand merchandise, electronics and much more.

The Certified Jeweler Program, which recognizes retailers who participate in the SJTA's educational and professional-development seminars, also made its debut at the spring show, with more than 400 retailers registering. Upon meeting attendance criteria, retailers receive a certificate and a store-window decal recognizing the retailer's participation in the program.

On day two of the show, the winners of the SJTA-sponsored student design competition, open to students and alumni from the Savannah College of Art and Design, were announced. The winners are: Yu-Ling Tseng, Best in Show; and first place winners Christi Reiterman, Gold and Platinum; Sarah Lewis, Silver; Molly Dingledine, Alternative Metals and Methods; and Kristin Poppo, High-tech Design. Designs were chosen on the basis of overall design, marketability, wearability and craftsmanship.

The fall edition of the Atlanta Jewelry Show returns to the Cobb Galleria Center from Aug. 11-13.

In other SJTA news, the association has announced the members of its 2007-2008 Retail Advisory Board. Those members are: Virginia Anderson, T.K. Anderson Jewelry, Athens, Ga.; Arnold and Freda Gibbs, Arnold's Jewelers, Shelby, N.C.; Michael White, White's Classic Jewelers, Springfield, Tenn.; Gene Pool and Jamie Chandler, Hudson-Poole Jewelers, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; Brant Bateman and Lee Eskridge, LeeBrandt Jewelers, Atlanta; Nancy Dawkins, Nancy and Co., Northport, Ala.; Terry Chandler, Diamond Council of America, Nashville, Tenn.; William Cobb, Robinson-Barnes Master Jewelers, Pace, Fla.; Giles Dunn, Hoover Jewelers, Manchester, Tenn.; Ben and Heather Whidby, Whidby Jewelers, Madison, Ga.; and Evan James Deutsch, Evan James Ltd., Brattleboro, Vt.
