Los Angeles—The Women's Jewelry Association (WJA) Los Angeles Chapter will host a presentation on sourcing and selling environmentally friendly jewels at a dinner on June 18.

The event will feature goldsmith Jennifer Horning of Ethical Metalsmiths, whose work has focused on socially conscious buying and environmentally friendly manufacturing practices for working jewelers.

Horning is co-founder of Ethical Metalsmiths and was a member of the steering committee for 2007's Madison Dialogue Ethical Jewelry Summit in Washington, D.C. She is currently chairing the working group in charge of establishing a national standard for recycled metals. In addition, she has counseled a variety of organizations on responsible mining practices in the United States and abroad.

"Jennifer will be addressing some of the questions we all have about sourcing and marketing responsibly mined gems and precious metals, and will be looking at some of the changes we can expect to see in supply-chain certification," WJA-LA Co-President Rossana Aguilar said in a media release.

The event, to be held at Matteo's Restaurant, located at 2321 Westwood Blvd. in West Los Angeles, will include cocktails (cash bar) at 6:30 p.m., a sit-down dinner at 7:00 p.m. and the presentation at 8:00 p.m. The cost is $65 for members who RSVP, $75 for members without an RSVP and $75 for non-members and/or guests at the door. Valet parking is $5.

RSVP by Friday, June 13, to lisa.schoening@gia.edu.
