JIS, SATGIN to educate on S. American theft gangs

Miami Beach, Fla.—Jewelers International Showcase (JIS) will host a seminar next month for law enforcement personnel to educate them on South American theft gangs.

JIS, in cooperation with the South American Theft Group Intelligence Network (SATGIN), will host law enforcement officers from Florida and Georgia, including federal agents and Canadian officers, for a one-day seminar on South American theft gangs and how to identify and deal with them.

The seminar will be held in conjunction with the JIS 2008 Miami Beach Trade Show to give law enforcement officers additional insight into jewelry tradeshows and the problems traveling jewelry salespeople encounter.

JIS and SATGIN will also host a seminar at the show for JIS exhibitors on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 2:00 p.m., and for JIS registered buyers on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 9:00 a.m., to educate attendees on South American theft gangs and their scams.

Admission is complimentary for registered JIS attendees.

The JIS 2008 Miami Beach Trade Show will be held from Oct. 17-20 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, Fla. With 1,300 booths anticipated, this is expected to be JIS' largest show.
