LVMH sees 1Q watch, jewelry sales increase

Paris—Watch and jewelry sales at LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton increased 20 percent in the first quarter of 2007 to $258 million.

The company reported that TAG Heuer performed well in all regions, while other standout lines included Zenith's "Defy" collection and Montres Dior's Christal line. Chaumet also benefited from the success of its jewelry collection, Attrape-moi, and its "Dandy" watches.

LVMH reported a successful BaselWorld fair, with warm receptions to Tag Heuer's new watch movement Calibre S, Zenith's updated Defy line and the introduction of actress Sharon Stone as the face of Montre Dior's Christal watches and jewelry.

Overall, LVMH saw income increase 7 percent for the quarter to $5.19 billion.

By merchandise category, sales increased as follows: in wines and spirits, 9 percent to $940 million; in fashion and leather goods, 4 percent to $1.8 billion; in perfumes and cosmetics, 11 percent to $905 million; and in selective retailing, 5 percent to $1.28 billion.
