New York--Jewelers looking for tactics to get through a tough year can turn to a JA New York Winter Show educational session titled "Survive 2009/Thrive 2010," where representatives from The Nielsen Co. and the Diamond Promotion Service (DPS) will offer their expertise.

The session is open to all attendees of the JA New York Winter Show, to be held Jan. 18-20 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

"Survive 2009/Thrive 2010" will initially take place on Monday, Jan. 19, at 10:15 a.m. on the general session stage, located behind the Couture Pavilion at the back of Hall 1C, near aisles 1000 and 1100.

For those who can't make the first event, a repeat session is slated for Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 10:15 a.m. in the same location.

Scheduled presenters include James Russo, vice president of marketing for The Nielsen Co., and Emmy Kondo, senior strategic planner of the DPS.

The session is designed to provide attendees with the latest insight into current consumer behavior and how that behavior will continue to unfold in 2009 and beyond. Retailers will be able to hear how they can position their business to exploit current and future opportunities.

The session will also take a look into the emerging new credit and commodity realities impacting jewelry retailers and how to leverage this information.

Additional topics to be covered include trends in consumer tastes and spending, captivating the next-generation buyer, unexpected opportunities in a down economy and how the best independent retailers are "pro-acting."

Participants will also have access to the expertise of the panelists in an open question-and-answer period that will follow the seminar.

The Survive 2009/Thrive 2010 seminar is one of numerous educational sessions being offered during the show. For a complete show seminar schedule, click here.
