Hyde Park Jewelers celebrates 30 years

Denver—Hyde Park Jewelers, one of the nation's top independents, is celebrating 30 years in business. Founded in 1976, Hyde Park today boasts locations in Denver, Phoenix and Las Vegas, and employs more than 60 people.

Company principals Michael Pollak and Steven Rosdal established Hyde Park by converting assets from their previous venture, The Turquoise Trading Co., through which the men sold turquoise to specialty stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom. In 1976, Hyde Park opened its first location in Denver's Tamarac Square, one of the country's first specialty-store retail malls.

Over the years, Hyde Park gained a reputation for its wide array of merchandise at all price points, it's prestigious watch service helmed by Master Watchmaker Igor Bodin and its own line of branded products, including the proprietary Classica Cut diamond and Bella Dolce jewelry line. Hyde Park is also famous for selling the largest diamond ever found in Colorado: a 28.3-carat stone found at Redaurum's Kelsey Lake Mine.

Along with the store's growing reputation came physical expansion. In 1997, Hyde Park opened a Las Vegas location at The Forum Shops at Caesars. In 2003, it opened a Phoenix store in the Biltmore Fashion Park.

Today, Hyde Park's flagship is a 10,000-square-foot facility in Denver's Cherry Creek Shopping Center. The store features a diamond boutique, Patek Philippe salon and a GemVision Lab, which includes a computer-based design system that allows the jeweler and client to create custom jewelry with CAD software. Another draw is the store's Platinum Rewards customer-loyalty program, by which customers can earn points toward their Hyde Park purchases through a network of retailers across the globe.

Celebrations for Hyde Park's 30th anniversary began in October when Hyde Park hosted a watch fair, followed by a diamond event the next month. The festivities culminated in December with a series of designer trunk shows, including Chopard, David Yurman, John Hardy, Judith Ripka, Roberto Coin and Vera Wang.

And a bit of extra icing on the cake: Denver's 5280 magazine named Hyde Park "Top Jewelry Store in Denver" for 2006, an honor the store also garnered in 2003 and 2004.
