Garrard's American debut

A chandelier hangs outside the first U.S. location for London-based jeweler Garrard, which opened this Tuesday at Two Rodeo in Los Angeles. The celebrity presence and awards show season make Los Angeles an ideal location for the boutique. But "Hollywood man" Ron Burkle, who paid an estimated $20 million to $30 million for the company, is also a significant factor.

The chandelier maker to Buckingham Palace, David Wilkinson, outfitted the bi-level boutique with raspberry-tinted, floor-to-ceiling chandeliers. The first floor is decorated with window cases set in the wall and circular rosewood counters topped with limestone marble. Two VIP rooms with leather sofas and cream carpets are on the second floor, which has walls decorated with framed royal appointments.

Special pieces were flown in from London for the grand opening, including a 99-carat "Cleopatra" sapphire and a 104.15-carat fancy-brown-orange pear-shaped diamond worth $6.2 million and $6.5 million, respectively.
