Leading Jewelers of the World names new senior VP

Michael C. Barlerin, former chief executive of the World Gold Council, Americas, has been appointed to the new position of senior vice president of marketing for Leading Jewelers of the World (LJW).

Nehal Modi, chief executive officer of LJW Holdings, LLC, made the announcement on May 3.

"One of Michael's primary responsibilities will be to lend support to Leading Jewelers of the World as we work to further develop and build the positioning of that brand," Modi said in a statement. "We are fortunate to have someone with Michael's depth of experience in marketing, the jewelry industry and association management as part of the LJW team."

Barlerin formed his own marketing and management services company for the jewelry industry, Michael Barlerin Associates LLC, in 2005. For the preceding 15 years, he had been chief executive of the World Gold Council (WGC), Americas, where he directed the development of the original "Gold Mark," the "Build Your Business Out of Gold" trade program and its consumer advertising component, "It's Hot, It's Gold." Prior to joining the WGC, Barlerin spent seven years at Zale Corp. as senior vice president, marketing, where he worked on the re-branding of the Fine Jewelers Guild into the Bailey Banks and Biddle brand.

Barlerin serves on the Jewelers Vigilance Committee board, is a member of the Twenty-Four Karat Club of New York and recently joined Financo Inc.'s global consulting team.
