GIA advises grads to form alumni chapters

September 18, 2007

Carlsbad, Calif.—Connecting with fellow alumni from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) just got easier with the new brochure Quick Start Guide: Create a GIA Alumni Association Chapter.

The 12-page booklet encourages graduates to create a new chapter by following three steps: First, contact the GIA Alumni Association. Second, notify graduates in the area. Third, schedule a meeting.

GIA Manager of Alumni Relations Rose McKenna said in a statement that demand for new chapters around the world has never been stronger.

"We've heard from graduates in Mexico, Lebanon, Indonesia and Greece since the Quick Start Guide launched in August," McKenna said in a statement.

McKenna said the chapters don't have to be large; they can be as small as just three or four members who meet bimonthly to share advice and exchange ideas. Of course, these smaller chapters can always grow into something larger.

The guide outlines chapter responsibilities such as meetings and contact with the GIA, Web site links to the GIA, officer recognition, alumni programs and services as well as guidelines on liability, use of names, trademarks and copyrights.

To obtain a copy of the Quick Start Guide, e-mail alumni@gia.edu or call (760) 603-4145. The brochure can also be downloaded by going to the GIA Web site and clicking on "Alumni Association."
