Jewelers for Children names new board

New York—Jewelers for Children has elected Howard Sherwood, co-president of Daniel's Jewelers, as the new chairman of its board of directors.

The appointment was just one of many announced at the charity's annual board of director elections, according to a press release issued on Thursday. Also elected to officer positions were Joel Schechter of Honora as vice chairman and vice president of charity programs; Ofer Azrielant of Andin International as vice president of marketing and public relations; Edward Bridge of Ben Bridge Jeweler as vice president of special programs; Marvin Beasley of Helzberg Diamonds as vice president of fund-raising; Ruth Batson of the American Gem Society as treasurer; and Rachel Wertheimer of JewelAmerica as secretary.

Laurence Grunstein, the former chairman of the Jewelers of America board, concluded his two-year term on Sept. 30, but will continue to serve as immediate past chairman and chairman of the nominating committee.

Directors elected to a three-year term on the board for the first time are: James De Mattei of ViewPoint Sales and Marketing; John Green of Lux Bond and Green; Rosalind Kainyah of De Beers Inc.; Dan Kisch of Instore magazine; Samir Mehta of Paras Diamond Corp.; Whitney Sielaff of National Jeweler magazine; and Ulrich Wohn of TAG Heuer.

Directors re-elected to three-year terms are: Azrielant; Lee Berg of Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry; Bridge; Terry Chandler of the Diamond Council of America; Lowell Kwiat of Kwiat; Randy McCullough of Samuels Jewelers; Michael Paolercio of Richline Group; Martin Rapaport of Rapaport; James Rosenheim of the Tiny Jewel Box; Matthew Runci of Jewelers of America; Schechter; Elliot Tannenbaum of Leo Schachter Diamonds; and Alexander Weindling of Weindling International.
