New York—The Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC) is gearing up to present a free legal-compliance seminar to New York City's 47th Street Business Improvement District, one of the largest, most well-known selling locations for fine jewelry and diamonds in the United States.

The seminar, titled "Legal Compliance is NOT Optional," will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Diamond Dealer's Café.

The event is exclusive to businesses on 47th Street, also known as New York City's Diamond District.

Cecilia Gardner, JVC's president, chief executive officer and general counsel, and Suzan Flamm, assistant general counsel, will offer practical how-to actions that many jewelers might need to follow legal-compliance regulations, including how to comply with anti-money-laundering regulations.

"We're happy to be working with the JVC," Michael Grumet, executive director of the 47th Street Business Improvement District, said in a media release. "We want the merchants in our district to be in compliance with all laws and regulations concerning our industry and this seminar will help them to do so."

The JVC encourages jewelers to attend its legal-compliance seminars and learn more about the benefits of JVC membership by visiting its Web site, JVCLegal.org. Diamond District businesses can register for the Oct. 29 seminar by visiting the site. For additional questions, contact the 47th Street Business Improvement District at (212) 302-5739 or the JVC at (212) 997-2002.

The Diamond Dealer's Café is located at 580 5th Ave., 10th floor. Free continental breakfast will be served.
