Las Vegas—Ruth Batson, executive director and chief executive officer of the American Gem Society (AGS), has been elected as a member of The Twenty-Four Karat Club of the City of New York, an exclusive organization whose members represent the most esteemed in the industry.

Baston has been an integral member of the AGS since joining in 1993. Prior to being named executive director and CEO, Batson was the organization's controller and chief financial officer, and was responsible for the financing, design and construction of the AGS's Robert M. Shipley building complex. She also acted as a key participant in the development and management of the AGS Laboratories. In her current position, Batson is responsible for managing the AGS's daily operations to meet strategic goals and initiatives.

Batson serves on the board of directors for a number of jewelry industry organizations, including Jewelers for Children, the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, the JCK Show Advisory Board and the Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices.

"The respect and high regard associated with The Twenty-Four Karat Club of the City of New York and its members is both astounding and humbling," Batson said in a statement. "I look forward to active membership in the club for years to come."
