WJC tops 40 firms
February 23, 2007
Las Vegas—More than 40 companies have now signed letters of intent to participate in the World Jewelry Center (WJC), a large, international jewelry hub that will include trade, retail and educational outlets. "It's remarkable and impressive how rapidly we have reached this level of participation," WJC Managing Director Bill Boyajian said in a statement. "The momentum in favor of this project has been building steadily, as more and more business leaders embrace the vision of the World Jewelry Center through our worldwide presentations and the increasing industry-wide awareness." Plans were initially announced for the center last summer, with the official launch taking place in October when 10 companies had committed to participate. The 41 firms now attached to the project cover a number of industry sectors, including diamonds, colored stones, pearls, jewelry manufacturing, packaging and display, watches and gem laboratories. Boyajian said the center will provide companies a unique "one-stop" locale, something that's key in the global jewelry industry. "Overseas firms can establish solid entry into the U.S. market and take advantage of its international business environment—including a Foreign Trade Zone—while U.S. companies can expand their markets both domestically and internationally in a centralized location. The benefits are impressive," he said. Among those to sign on at this point are: Alan Friedman Designs, an acclaimed jewelry design and colored-diamond company; Chow Tai Fook Group, Hong Kong's leading jewelry manufacturer and retailer; Dhamani Jewels, exclusive distributor of the 99-facet Dubai Cut diamond; Hearts On Fire, diamond-brand leader; House of Taylor Jewelry; and Tasaki Shinju, a vertically integrated Japanese pearl and diamond company and a Diamond Trading Co. sightholder. The firms who have signed letters of intent to date are: Alan Friedman Designs, American Gem Society, Avi Paz Group, Bond Street Jewellers, C. Mahendra NY, Chow Tai Fook Group, Color Masters, Dhamani Jewels, Diamonds of Russia, Eshed Diam, ESTET Jewelry Co., EyeOnJewels Corp., Fancy Collection, Focus Business Management, Gary Wasserman, GemeWizard, GemFind.Net, Giraux Fine Jewelry, Haytayan Jewelers, Hearts On Fire, House of Taylor Jewelry, House of Watches, I Do Diamonds, International Gemological Institute, JEA Jewelry, JPI Display, Kazanjian Bros., Kiran Exports, Lucent Diamonds, M. Schnitzer and Co., MaxMark/Asian Star, Prompt Gem Importers, Robert Wan Tahiti, Shrenuj and Co., Simplex Diam, Star Rays NY, Super Bell Jewelry Co., Tara and Sons, Tasaki Shinju, Tycoon and Vimco Diamond Corp. Boyajian's been on a worldwide jewelry tour that's included Hong Kong, Dubai, Japan, India and Israel, sharing the vision of the WJC. Recently, members of the Armenian Jewelers Association praised the center at a dinner held in Los Angeles. Owners and representatives of 50 gem and jewelry companies attended the event, which included a presentation by Boyajian. "We've been traveling the world to share the vision of the World Jewelry Center, and we haven't forgotten about our many friends in the United States, either," Boyajian said. "The attendance at this dinner was most encouraging, and several firms immediately requested letters of intent to purchase space in the trade tower and to lease retail space."
