Macy's turning over a new leaf

New York—Macy's is the latest company to go "green," partnering with the National Park Foundation to raise money for green space nationwide.

According to a press release from Macy's, the partnership is the cornerstone of the company's Turn Over a New Leaf campaign, which runs from April 20-27, in conjunction with Earth Week and Earth Day.

The campaign, intended to raise awareness of everyday eco-friendly practices, will include special promotions, merchandise and in-store events.

"The collaboration between Macy's and the National Park Foundation is designed to inspire a renewed interest in protecting and preserving our national parks and to heighten environmental awareness among our customers and employees," Macy's Corporate Marketing President Peter Sachse said in the release. "The National Park Foundation is a highly respected organization with an important mission, and Macy's connection to the general consumer offers a valuable platform to promote environmental activism."

Highlighting Macy's environmental efforts are the One Good Turn charity shopping days, scheduled for April 26 and 27.

Beginning April 20, customers can purchase tickets that are good for 20 percent off most men's, women's, children's and accessories merchandise, and 10 percent off housewares during those two days.

The tickets—available at Macy's or online at the National Parks Web site, Nationalparks.org—are $5, with the money going to the National Park Foundation.

In addition, the proceeds from all items purchased in those two days goes to the foundation.

On April 22, in celebration of Earth Day, Macy's is giving a free sapling to the first 100 customers through the doors in each of its stores. The first 100 children will receive a National Park Foundation "Kid Power" activity and coloring book.

In addition, customers can enter Macy's national online sweepstakes at the company's Web site, Macys.com. The grand prize is a new Ford Escape hybrid SUV. First-, second- and third-place contestants will win a trip for four to the country's national parks.
