Breakfast at Tiffany's

October 09, 2007

On Wednesday, Tiffany and Co. will ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. This is one of many planned events in celebration of its new store opening at 37 Wall St.

Founding and ribbon-cutting ceremonies attended by Chief Executive Michael J. Kowalski and Deputy Mayor Daniel L. Doctoroff will also take place. The financial district will be peppered with street musicians serenading passersby with "Moon River," models wearing Tiffany jewelry and carts with Tiffany Blue umbrellas dispensing free coffee and cookies. Complimentary newspapers and Tiffany shopping bags with branded water and blue-and-white Tiffany cookies will also be distributed.

The 35-foot ceilings, marble walls, crown moldings and carved cornice columns of the 25-story Beaux Arts-style building have undergone extensive restoration. A 75-foot-long floating sculpture by lighting designer Ingo Maurer, designed to reflect the brilliance of Tiffany's diamonds, is the centerpiece of the 11,000-square-foot store.
