Adalah-NY continues Leviev protests

New York—Adalah-NY, the group responsible for the protests outside Lev Leviev's store on Madison Avenue, continued their campaign against the billionaire diamantaire at the JA New York Summer Show.

According to a release from the group, Adalah-NY volunteers passed out flyers at Jewelers of America (JA) events over the weekend and at the show, which was held from July 27-30 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

The release states that Adalah-NY passed out "hundreds of flyers" featuring a photo of Leviev earrings with the caption, "More teardrops courtesy of Leviev." Adalah-NY members encouraged attendees to cease doing business with Leviev's companies because of his alleged human rights abuses in the African nations of Angola and Namibia, and his companies' alleged construction of Israeli settlements on Palestinian land in the West Bank.

According to the release, the volunteers passed out 550 flyers in two days. Some members of the jewelry industry asked questions and expressed interest while others were angry over the flyers, according to Adalah-NY.

JA and a spokesperson for Leviev could not be reached for comment.
