Couture's expanded model a hit with exhibitors and buyers

June 15, 2007

New York—Unveiling an extended and expanded show model, Couture announced it had a successful run during its May 30-June 4 stay in Las Vegas.

The show, held at the upscale Wynn Las Vegas, hosted a much larger group of retailers, exhibitors and press, according to a statement from show organizers.

More than 225 of the world's finest jewelry designers exhibited, with 85 percent showing exclusively at the Wynn during the all-important Vegas market week. More than 4,500 fine retailers and industry executives visited the show floor, show producers said.

Under the revised show model, the previously invitation-only event opened attendance to more jewelry retailers. Organizers said the increase in buyers indicated that the new show model had been accepted by the fine jewelry community.

Retailers like Jim Rosenheim of Tiny Jewel Box in Washington, D.C., were impressed with the level of design at the show.

"There are so many new, creative designs that we discovered at this show," he said.

Scott Martin of Saks added, "From a business standpoint, this was the best show we have had."

Besides the larger community of retailers who took part this year, past Couture attendees were designated as "Cornerstone" retailers. This select group received special amenities, including VIP hosting and accommodations, access to special events such as the Town and Country Couture Design Awards and exclusive shopping hours.

Couture exhibitors said they were pleased with the results.

"We had a record number of appointments as well as an amazing response to our newest designs," said Bill Gould of Kwiat, which exhibited in one of the show's private ballrooms. "The unique selling atmosphere created a backdrop for record sales for Kwiat at Couture."

"The revised show model of Couture proved itself as a successful resurgence for the show," said Lee Arevian, vice president of the Nielsen Jewelry Group. "Designers were pleased with the more open model and volume of traffic. The expanded show model really allowed fuller access to the elite sector's buyers."

Other highlights from Couture included "Tuesday at Two—How to Reach the Elite Affluent," an invitational session hosted by the Gem Certification and Assurance Lab and American Gemological Laboratories; an informational breakfast panel on palladium; and the 10th annual Departures Golf Classic.
